Randle-helmed "Katya, A One Night Stand" to play Eureka Theatre and Rrazz Room This Summer
"Katya ... A One Night Stand", J. Conrad Frank's newest show as "San Francisco's favorite Russian red-head, the Countess Katya Smirnoff-Skyy" will play Eureka Theatre, June 13, and The Rrazz Room in Hotel Nikko, August 24, 2010. Frank will be accompanied by Joe Canon, who also serves as Musical Director. The evening will be directed by Ben Randle.
In press materials, Katya's "latest cabaret spectacular" is described as "an evening of song, story and vodka. With music ranging from Bizet to Lady Gaga to John Lennon, there is a little something for everyone in this 90 minute voyage into the mind of Russia's (self proclaimed) Greatest Mezzo-Soprano understudy turned Countess, turned Macy's cosmetic counter lady."
Named Best Drag act 2008 by the San Francisco Bay Guardian and best actor in a musical by the Bay Area Theater Critics Association, J. Conrad Frank (writer and Life Coach for Ms. Smirnoff) has worked with the Countess since her arrival in San Francisco five years ago. A San Mateo native, Conrad received his BM in vocal performance from the University of Oregon and has since performed leading roles in various Operatic and theatrical productions across the Bay Area, Aspen and Oregon. Conrad appeared as Sylvia Fowler in Jungle Red (Artful Circle Theater) and recently stared as Blanche in the upcoming feature film Baby Jane, premiering at the Castro Theater for Frameline June 22 (http://www.babyjane2009.com). As Katya, Conrad has shown his wit and vocal stylings in countless nightclubs, bars and events across San Francisco, and performed in Provincetown. Katya hosts the monthly show Katya Presents at Martuni's Bar every third Sunday of the month, as well as a cabaret contest every first Sunday.
The Eureka run will be part of renowned local cabaret crooner Russ Lorenson, in association with Carly Ozard and Tom Orr's SOMETHING C.O.O.L. SUMMER CABARET FESTIVAL. Press material describe the show as "a diversely entertaining array of unique cabaret offerings in a 5-week series of shows, 7 nights a week ... featuring a Who’s Who of the Bay Area's best, brightest and busiest musical theatre performers."
The Eureka Theatre in located on 215 Jackson St. and The Rrazz Room is located in The Hotel Nikko in downtown San Francisco.
